Ladies Bible Study Review Notes, part 8…

I am tempted to put a little study of “eternal life” at this point. I have an intense desire to teach you how the Bible is its own dictionary. Some of you who have sat for years under the traditions of men, have difficulty reading in context. Let’s see if just pasting a few “eternal life” verses here, will help you define it.

Mark 10:30 but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. Definition: Eternal life is in the age to come.

John 5:29 and shall come forth; those who did the good [deeds] to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil [deeds] to a resurrection of judgment. Definition – Eternal life experienced after the resurrection.

1John 2:21 – 25 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. Definition – I must know the truth and abide in what I heard from the beginning (of Christ’s teachings) to be able to abide in the Son and in the Father. Then, I can have the promise of the Father – eternal life. Galatians 3:22 says that the promise by the faith (eternal life) might be given those who are believers (the ones living by faith).

Galatians 3:22 But the Scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Read Acts 2: 33-47. Here are some observations that I have made:

The promise of eternal life from the Father is also the promise of the Holy Spirit.

The gift of the Holy Spirit and the calling to the promise (of eternal life) must be received together; and that repentance and baptism are required.

Those who had believed the gift and the promise in verses 38 and 39, were being saved.

“Saved,” “received His Word,” “baptized,” continually devoted to these teachings and the fellowship, “breaking of bread,” and to the prayers, were those who had believed.

Romans 2:6-7 who WILL RENDER TO EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: 7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; Definition – Eternal life is after every man has given account of his deeds. Eternal life includes glory, honor, immortality, which is the opposite of corruption.

Galatians 6:7-9 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary. Definition – Eternal life is when we reap what we have sown to the Spirit. It includes doing good now and not becoming weary.
