Withdrawals from my memory account…..

New Series:  Withdrawals from my memory account will need some explanations.  Memories are drawn from my emotional column.  They will be accurate – not to the letter nor to the amount – but to my emotional recall.  Now, at my age, memories come from my happy place.  I can conjure up some mighty unhappy ones – and I just might – however, my memory and I prefer the happy ones.  You see, I have a sister who will probably read this and she might think that that is not the way she remembers it.  She is correct.  Indeed, she will remember out of her emotional memory account, etc.  That is just the way being human works.  Reared in the same family, with the same parents, she responded with her emotions ……besides, she is 4 years younger than the sister telling these stories.

First, I will tell you how I got to be born…..according to my parents.

Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941.  I was born on August 30, 1942.  If you are good at math, you can figure it out.  It goes like this:  some time in December, 1941. my mom had a dream that the United States would join the war and that my dad would get drafted.  She woke him up in the middle of the night and said, “George, let’s have a baby.”  He was all for that!  He went on to say, that the first two weeks were fun, but after that it was just plain work!  (I overheard him say that at his 40th birthday party down at the bar-b-que pit at our house.  It has always been a precious moment to me.)

So, what are you reading?

Summer is great for reading, especially when it is your (my) least favorite time of year.  I am not “out-doorsey” nor like water sports……do like the ocean, however.  Anyway, reading and studying are my favorite past times any time of the year.  Summer seems to just give me permission to read away.  Here are the ones I’m reading…..so far:

“Prayers the Devil Answers” by Sharyn McCrumb – she writes Appalachian folk tales …..easy to read, put down, and begin again.  I have ancestors from this area and identify with the characters and their lives.  Anyone will enjoy her books.  I have also read all of Dale Cramer’s books.  Clean, good reads for anyone.

“Temple” by Robert Cornuke – Amazing New Discoveries that Change Everything about the Location of Solomon’s Temple…..I love to read controversial books – sometimes.  This one is well written.

I’m still working at reading, “Exo-Vaticana” by Cris Putnam and Thomas Horn.  Subheading:  “Petrus Romanus, Project L.U.C.I.F.E.R., and the Vatican’s Astonishing Plan for the Arrival of an Alien Savior”  See! I read all kinds of books!

My favorite:  the Bible.  Reading through Hebrews, of course and any other book of the Bible.  I like to read a whole book in one sitting…..or at least one day.  the ISV version is my favorite reading Bible this summer.  Only available online, not yet in print.  Can be downloaded to iPad, Kindle, etc.  It is on all 6 of my Kindles and on my iPad!

My lap Bible is the NAS, 1977 edition of the Inductive Study Bible.  No longer in print…..and I do not like the new edition…..takes out the “Thees” and “Thous” and removes some of the conjunctions…..conjunctions are important, folks!

The absolute best way to “read” the Bible is have it read to you and follow along with your eyes. There are many sources available on the internet…..favorite: Blue Letter Bible site:  blb.org

The trouble with old habits…and owls…

So, Mary, how did your new schedule go today?

Glad you asked…..LOVED it….until after lunch…..when….it was nap time in the olden days.  Awww….I gave in…..read on my book, dozed, dog barked, read some more, dozed, phone rang, didn’t answer, read again, dozed some more….up and chipper as ever!

Naps were never really much nap around here anyway.  Our dog, Rusty, loves to bark if a neighbor shuts a door, or if he even thinks there is a brown truck on the street.  He hates brown trucks and the mail truck.  In other words, he sees no need to let his ears go to sleep.

Now, the good part:  Hoot and Hooter were back……taking two baths each…..sitting on the shallow blue plate – which is for the small birds – and smooching.  Yep, in front of God and…..me.  They preened on each other, pulling feathers, and saying,  “scratch here, behind my ears.”  I was enthralled.  They stayed for about an hour and half.  I prayed with eyes wide open, and read Bible verses glancing up often, thanking God for putting on such a show just for little ole me.  Truly thankful! A perfect worship service.

New (old) Schedule…..

My husband retired November 30, 2009…..we settled into a new pattern and I do love it.  We eat….whenever…..we nap….whenever…..we sleep…..mostly at night.  We “have church” every day….talking about what concerns us, because we are two meeting together.  However, my deep studying and meditations upon the Scriptures has been sporadic.  It is time to return to a revision of my old schedule when he worked from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm….Arising at 4 am will NOT be in the new schedule, however.

Today I made myself a new schedule of habits that just might suit my personality to a tee….and my old, painful body…..slow body…..and slower brain.  Time will reveal just how badly I want to study, meditate, and write about the Lord’s revelations.

Go to bed – 8 pm……up at 6:30 am, dress, one chore, eat breakfast…..STUDY, WRITE…..Lunch at 1:00…..no naps!

This will be worked around doctor appointments and God’s interruptions (His will).

Comparing Scriptures for “Promise,” “Inherit”

Abraham’s Promise

Romans 15:8 is our foundational verse upon which we are building the whole study of Abraham’s Promise:

Jesus came to confirm the promises

Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm (“establish” – “to set and fix firmly” – Webster)  the promises made unto the fathers.

Confirm

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

(This verse is interesting from the Rotherham translation:  (16:20) They, on the other hand, going forth, proclaimed on every side, the Lord, co–working, and confirming, the word, through, the closely following signs.] OTHERWISE. [All the things given in charge unto the companions of Peter, they concisely reported. But, after these things, Jesus also, himself, from east even unto west, sent forth, through them, the sacred and incorruptible proclamation of the age–abiding salvation.])

Thy fathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

Acts 7:32 Saying, I am the God of thy FATHERS, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

 Our father David

Mark 11:10 Blessed be the kingdom of our FATHER David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Hebrews 6:11-12 And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

The kingdom of God = the promises given to the fathers

1 Corinthians 15:50 “…flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God…”

James 2:5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?(NIV)

Jesus was also sent to proclaim the promises

Luke 4:43 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”

Abraham’s Promise

Abraham’s Calling by the God of Glory

Act 7:2 And he said, “Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, Act 7:3 and said to him, ‘LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR RELATIVES, AND COME INTO THE LAND THAT I WILL SHOW YOU.’ Act 7:4 “Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. From there, after his father died, God had him move to this country in which you are now living. Act 7:5“But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and yet, even when he had no child, He promised that HE WOULD GIVE IT TO HIM AS A POSSESSION, AND TO HIS DESCENDANTS AFTER HIM. Act 7:6 “But God spoke to this effect, that his DESCENDANTS WOULD BE ALIENS IN A FOREIGN LAND, AND THAT THEY WOULD BE ENSLAVED AND MISTREATED FOR FOUR HUNDRED YEARS. Act 7:7 ” ‘AND WHATEVER NATION TO WHICH THEY WILL BE IN BONDAGE I MYSELF WILL JUDGE,’ said God, ‘AND AFTER THAT THEY WILL COME OUT AND SERVE ME IN THIS PLACE.’ Act 7:8 “And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

Let’s look more closely at the calling and life of Abraham. The only way to do this is read the Scriptures themselves. I will put some in order for you with little comment:

Abraham lived in Ur (Iraq) of the Chaldees -Ge 11:27 ¶ Now these are [the records of] the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot. 28 And Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

The word to Abraham from the God of Glory – Ge 12:1 ¶ Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; Ge 12:2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; Ge 12:3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Ge 12:4 ¶ So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Ge 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus they came to the land of Canaan. Ge 12:7 And the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.

A Literal Land – Forever (a promised resurrection in the coming age) – Ge 13:12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom. Ge 13:14 ¶ And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; Ge 13:15 for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. Ge 13:16 “And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered. Ge 13:17 “Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.”

The Promise Includes Reward, Inheritance – and Covenant – and Blessings for all nations (Gentiles included) of the Earth –

Ge 15:1 ¶ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.” Ge 15:2 ¶ And Abram said, “O Lord GOD, what wilt Thou give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Ge 15:3 And Abram said, “Since Thou hast given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir.” Ge 15:4 Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir; but one who shall come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir.” Ge 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Ge 15:7 ¶ And He said to him, “I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it (“inherit it”).”

Ge 17:7 ¶ “And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for aneverlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. Ge 17:8 “And I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

Ge 22:17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies. Ge 22:18 “And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

Ge 17:19 But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Resurrection is a Birth…

Resurrection is a Birth……

Isaiah 26:19 But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.  (NIV)

Let’s brainstorm about the importance of the resurrection (and I will use personal pronouns for this “storm”):

  •             I could not be justified.
  •             I would be without hope of participating in Christ’s glor
  •             I would be miserable without hope in the age to come, with only hope in this life.
  •             I would not have the priestly ministry of my Lord for me today.
  •             I would not be forgiven of present and future sins.
  •             My faith would be vain – useless.
  •             No way to please God.
  •             Actually, I would be unable to access faith.

In Beginning……

In Beginning……..

Genesis 1:1 – Elohim created “out of nothing” the heavens and the earth

Psalm 33:6-9 – How? …by the Word of His mouth

Isaiah 45:18 – the earth was not created “formless and void,” – created to be inhabited

Jer. 4:23 – earth becomes formless and void, cities broken down

Isaiah 24:1 – God made it formless and void

Job 38:29, 30 – “face of the deep” is frozen

Genesis 1:2 – Spirit of God warms the “face of the deep” – the “face of the waters”

Therefore, the original earth was created “bara” – out of nothing – beautiful and was inhabited.  The judgment of the earth in v. 2 had to come about because of Lucifer’s (the messianic cherub) pride and subsequent fall:  Ezek. 28:11-17 and Isa. 14:12 ff.

Hopefully, you will not find it difficult to believe God when He tells us that the original earth was not created formless and void; and that it was made to be inhabited – and it was inhabited – but not creatures “IN HIS IMAGE.”  They had cities according to Jeremiah 4:23.  Satan (Lucifer) was the “messiah” during that time (as well as now, btw).

(Verse 2, in Genesis 1, should begin, “The earth ‘became,’” – same word as Lot’s wife “became” a pillar of salt.)

Another thing that could have happened between verses 1 and 2:  dinosaurs? Job, chapters 40 and 41.

And…..another:  Job: 38:29, 30 – “From whose womb has come the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth?  Water becomes hard like stone, and the “face of the deep” is imprisoned.”

FYI – Genesis 1:1 is composed of 7 words in Hebrew – God’s number of perfection, showing the completion of that which is in view.  (See Ps. 12:6)  Also, verse 1 is made up of 28 letters (4 x 7).  Four (4) is the number of creation; i.e.  4 corners of the earth, 4 winds, 4 seasons, etc.

Twenty-four hours in a day were created for the restoration of the earth.  Jesus said in John 11:9 – “Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day?…”  Keep in mind that He is The WORD and He was with God, the Father, in the creation and restoration of the earth.  Also, remember that destroying the doctrine of the literal 24-hour days in Genesis, destroys the way that God has written His Word concerning the Sabbath Day.  2 Peter 3:8 says that we can be ignorant of something:  “that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”  Verse 9 goes on to say that the “Lord is not slow about HIS PROMISE…”

We have been given a “time table” – so to speak – as to when the Lord will return and establish His Kingdom – when the “government will be upon His shoulders.”  It will be on the 7th day (7,000 years from Genesis 1:2).  This doctrine is the only doctrine that satan does not want you to know.  He loves ignorance on this subject because he will be replaced.

Earth is just one of innumerable provinces in God’s kingdom:  Job 1:6; 2:1; Isa. 14:13.  Satan assigned the earth in Ezek. 28:14.  Kingdom in ruins:  Gen 1:2a; Isa. 14:16, 17; Jer. 4:23-28 (sun darkened).

One more thing:  It is most important that the Spirit of God be allowed to move and guide our lives:  John 3:3-8; Romans 8:5, 9, 14; Galatians 4:29; 2 Corinthians 5:17, 18.

HIS WORD IS SPIRIT, LIFE AND LIGHT – see John 1, for example….and John 6:63.
