Ladies Bible Study Review, part 9…

Called unto Eternal Life”

First Timothy, chapter 6 gives us some more insight into the definition of “eternal life.” In verse 12, we are told to “take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.” In verses 9 and 10, we are warned of attitudes and lifestyle that can lead to ruin and destruction in “eternal life” – or “life in the age to come.” This is a very serious passage to read and obey. Verse 19 in this same chapter, says, “take hold of that which is life indeed” – corresponding to verse 12. Same “life” in both verses and refers to “life” as being future.

The first part of verse 12 gives us the bottom-line reason we may or may not have “destruction” in the age-life to come: We must “fight the good fight of the faith.” “Fight” isn’t a word we like to think of in relation to our salvation; but it is the “good fight” of THE faith that pleases God and believes that He is the Rewarder of good and bad that we must keep before us. (see Hebrews 11:6)

It is interesting to meditate upon our calling. Numerous Scriptures are plain and simple for the taking. Let’s look at a few.

Called to follow:

Mt 9:9 ¶ And as Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man, called Matthew, sitting in the tax office; and He *said to him, “Follow Me!” And he rose, and followed Him.

Many are called:

Mt 22:14 “For many are called, but few [are] chosen.”

Called unto holiness:

1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Called to age-lasting glory after suffering:

1 Peter 5:10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal age-lasting gloryby Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Called to inherit a blessing:

1Peter 3:8-9Finally , be yeALL of one mind , having compassion one of another , love as brethren be pitiful , be courteous : 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

“Let all things be done decently and in order.”……..1 Cor. 14:40

………with emphasis on “in order.”

P. S.  Not, “post script,” but a “pre script.”          I have read that ya’ll will only read 500 words with interest.  Shame on you!  You had best read ALL of this.  It is only 953 words.

I have “put in order” some scriptures which concern you!   Listen up!!

God desires all men to be saved (first “in order”) and (next “in order”) to come to the deeper knowledge of the truth:  1 Timothy 2:4 – “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

“Saved us”preceeds the “calling.    2Ti 1:9- “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,”      Why the calling?  – to His own purpose and grace and WHEN was it given?  – Before the world began.

2 Timothy 1:9 helps us to understand the conditions in these verses:  Romans 8:28 and 30 – “ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  Ro 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”  To whom do the “things work together for good?”  -to the ones loving God, AND, “called according to His purpose.”   Notice verse 30 – the called were predetermined.

The called to His kingdom and Glory ones have already been “saved,” -( I call this the “common salvation” because of Jude 3.)  Heb 3:1 “¶ Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;”   Eph 1:18 “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,”    Eph 4:1 ¶ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,  Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;”   Notes:  The calling is connected to the hope!  YOU MUST HAVE THIS “UNDER YOUR BELT!  You are  never to “hope” you are saved (the common salvation)  “Believe (aorist tense – once, as an event, never repeated) on the Lord Jesus Christ and thy shalt be saved! Acts 16:31

NOW, WE WILL CONSIDER THE CALLING UNTO WHAT?

Called unto His kingdom and glory:  1 Thessalonians 2:12 -” That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”

Called to holiness:  1Th 4:7 – “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”

Calling is to the obtaining the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ – 2Th 2:14 –  “Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The called might – or, might not – receive the promise of an age-lasting inheritance.  Heb 9:15 -” ¶ And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.”

Called to inherit a blessing.  –  1Pe 3:9 -” Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”

The called are sanctified (set apart) and preserved in Christ Jesus.  –  Jude 1:1  “¶ Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:”

Re 17:14 ¶ “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”   Read it again!  Who are those with the “overcoming Lamb, the Lord of more lords, and the King of more kings?  What group is missing?

Re 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”  Who are the blest?  To what are they called?

LET’S SUM THIS UP, FOR NOW.

One died for ALL  2Co 5:14 -“For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:”

MANY CALLED – Mt 20:16 – ” So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.”  Mt 22:14  – “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Servants are CALLED – Mt 25:14 – ” ¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.”  “Servants were called by Christ – they are “His own” entrusted with His “substance” (Vine’s N.T. Words).  In Hebrews 10:34, it means “possessions.”

Keep reading this passage to heed the warning to the third servant who does not gain a 100 percent profit – nor any other percentage – on what he had been entrusted.  NO WAY THIS “SERVANT” COULD BE NAMED AS “UNSAVED!  HE EVEN DEFENDS HIS ACTIONS WITH A TRUE STATEMENT WITH WHICH HIS LORD IS IN AGREEMENT.   THE LORD NAMES HIM A “WICKED AND SLOTHFUL SERVANT.”  He began as a servant and ended as a servant.  He was called.  He was given “goods” from his “Caller” according to his ability.  His Lord had guaranteed that , as His servant, he would be also given the ability to earn a profit.  He refused by “investing” in the earth, so to speak, which will never earn a profit!

Mt 25:14 ¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

Mt 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

Mt 25:16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

Mt 25:17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

Mt 25:18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

Mt 25:19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

Mt 25:20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

Mt 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Mt 25:22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

Mt 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Mt 25:24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

Mt 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

Mt 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Mt 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Mt 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

Mt 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Mt 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I recommend that you study carefully and humbly by “pausing and considering” these things.
