Holy Spirit of Promise…

Here is a little study that I put together for myself concerning being sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise.  I just list scriptures with no comments, so, it could be difficult to follow.  Hope you can glean a blessing.

Ro 15:8 For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers,  9 and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written, “THEREFORE I WILL GIVE PRAISE TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES, AND I WILL SING TO YOUR NAME.”

ASKING IN HIS NAME FOR THE SPIRIT OF PROMISE

Joh 14:13 “And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  14 “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do [it.]

Joh 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;  17 [that is] the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, [but] you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you.  18 ¶ “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Joh 14:25 ¶ “These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you.  26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Joh 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.

Joh 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you.

Joh 16:23 ¶ “And in that day you will ask Me no question. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you shall ask the Father for anything, He will give it to you in My name.  24 “Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.

Joh 17:20 ¶ “I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;

Joh 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”  22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

PROMISE OF THE FATHER = HOLY SPIRIT = POWER FROM ON HIGH

Lu 24:46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,  47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.  48 “You are witnesses of these things.  49 “And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Ac 1:1 ¶ The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.  3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;  5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Ac 2:32 “This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.  33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear

Ac 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  39 “For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

Ac 2:47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE

Eph 1:1- 14

¶ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus:  2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,  4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love  5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,  6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.  7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace  8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him  10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory.  13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation–having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

SPIRIT RECEIVED THROUGH FAITH, NOT LAW

Ga 3:1 ¶ You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?  2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?  3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?  4 Did you suffer so many things in vain–if indeed it was in vain?  5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

Ga 3:14 In order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Ga 5:5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.

WALK BY SPIRIT OF PROMISE = NOT UNDER THE LAW

Ga 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.  17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.  18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

Ga 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

REAPING LIFE FOR AGE IS RESULT OF SOWING TO THE SPIRIT OF PROMISE

Ga 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Ga 6:18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Note: read Romans 8 as example of flesh/spirit and compare to Galatians 4, 5, 6.
