…a Bible student's notes…

Studying Hebrews, part one….

Each chapter in Hebrews depends on the chapter before it – or we could note that each chapter except the first and last one begins with a conjunction, building upon the chapter before it.  So!  How important do you think that first chapter is!

And, you have heard that there are 5 warnings in Hebrews.  They build upon one another also.  We have what’s called “progressive revelation” in this book, obviously.  I believe the 66 books of the Bible are in progressive revelation mode; therefore, Hebrews is moving on toward the icing on the cake  –  so to speak.  For over a year now, Hebrews has been a blessing to me, personally, more than any other book in the Bible.  It is because of it’s main theme: the great High Priestly ministry of my Lord for me right now, this very moment.

Now, take that first chapter apart and put it back together – then, give that chapter your own personal title.  Your Bible may have one already there for you – I hope not.  Would be nice if you could get a nice clean Bible with no notes or titles.  It will make you a better Bible studier. Look up every reference in the Old Testament that your Bible has in the margins.

Note:  To help you on verse five, “TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN THEE” is in the original as “TODAY I HAVE BROUGHT THEE TO THE BIRTH.”  Acts 2:24 says, literally, “Whom God raised up, putting an end to the birth pangs of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.”  This chapter is discussing our Lord’s resurrection – not His “birth” from Mary’s womb.  “God” is the first word in this chapter.  It was the resurrection that made our Lord God’s Firstborn, Who intends to bring many “sons” to participate in His Glory in the coming 1,000 year reign of brand new government – when the government will be upon His Shoulders!
