…a Bible student's notes…

“Thinkin’ Out Loud…

The opposite of exercising authority over a man is to have “tranquility arising from within,” causing no disturbance to him.

1Ti 2:9-12  Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments; but rather by means of good works, as befits women making a claim to godliness. Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority (this Greek verb means “to assume a stance of independent authority, give orders to, dictate to” – “tell a man what to do) over a man, but (contrariwise ) to remain quiet (indicates “tranquillity arising from within,” causing no disturbance to others).

Reminds me of 1Pe 3:4  “but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
