“WHO TEACHES LIKE HIM?” – Listen to Him….

“Who teaches like Him?”  Job 36:22

Listen to Him:  Mt 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

What was the message Jesus Christ preached?

Mr 1:14 ¶ And after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent (change your beliefs) and believe in the gospel.” 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (concerning the gospel of the kingdom of God) 21 And they *went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach (the gospel of the kingdom). 22 And they were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Mt 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Mt 4:23 ¶ And Jesus was going about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people.

Lu 8:1 ¶ And it came about soon afterwards, that He began going about from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God; and the twelve were with Him,

Why was Jesus sent?

Lu 4:43 But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.”

Ro 15:8 For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, (Thus, the reason for a study of Abraham.  The gospel of the kingdom of God (heavens) is revealed through the promises given to the fathers – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David to name a few that we will study.  This is why Jesus came and what He preached.  This is the true gospel.)

The kingdom of God = the promises given to the fathers

1 Corinthians 15:50 “…flesh and blood cannot INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD…”

Hebrews 6:11-12 And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience INHERIT THE PROMISES.

James 2:5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to INHERIT the KINGDOM he PROMISED those who love him?(NIV)

And…..to whom shall we go?

Joh 6:68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

Eternal life is in the gospel of the kingdom which contains the promises given to the fathers.

How Long did Jesus Preach the Gospel of the Kingdom?

His whole life on earth:

Ac 1:1 ¶ The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,  2 until the day when He was taken up, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.  3 To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Ac 1:6 ¶ And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”  7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

Ac 1:10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was departing, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them;  11 and they also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

Is the gospel really in the Old Testament?

Mr 1:1 ¶ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER BEFORE YOUR FACE, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY;  3 THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.'”

Heb 6:11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,  12 that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.  13 For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,  14 saying, “I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU, AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU.”  15 And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.

The kingdom was rejected by Israel, and will be realized fully upon His return – which must include a resurrection of the dead.  He is the firstborn from the dead so that He can have many brethren.

The teaching of resurrection was much hated and scorned then – and now!  It means we will have to give an account of our lived lives now; and for some, this is no pleasant thought.  But, concerning Abraham, there is a certain supper where he will be present in his resurrected body:

Mt 8:11 “And I say to you, that many shall come from east and west, and recline [at the table] with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven;

Mt 22:32 ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Mr 12:26 “But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the [passage about the burning] bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’?

Lu 13:28 “There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth there when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out.

An incorruptible body is required to inherit:

1Co 15:49-58  And just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.  50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.  51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.  53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.  54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.  55 “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?”  56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law  57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ  58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
