…a Bible student's notes…

Whatcha’ up to, Mary?

Someone has asked me this and so it was time to think… remember….just what have I been doing.  There have been no big spring cleaning jobs, no ongoing projects, for me, that is.  But, I am gleeful over Bob’s painting our porch!  He did a super job painting it the color of our house – dark gray and mixing special sand into the paint for the stairs.  I had not even dreamed of having such a nice porch.  I am elated.  He left the clothes line for me, however.  I have two pairs of jeans drying out there now.  Gotta keep the place homey and cozy country chic.

Our backyard continues to be a high definition, huge-screen view of Downy woodpeckers, a resident Red-headed woodpecker, and its many friends and relatives.  Our bird baths ensure laughter each day.  I have seen Chick-a-dees, Wrens, Tufted Titmice pretend to be humming birds.  The Downy woodpeckers “hog” the 5 Humming bird feeders, drinking there for long periods of time.  We are sure of three nests in Bob’s four birdhouses – Wrens, we think.  There will probably be three broods this season since it began so early.

Blueberries are being harvested by Bob and we are thankful they are so good for us, eating them like M & Ms.  Two very full gallons are already in the freezer.  Since we have smoothies every day with blueberries and have them on our oatmeal each morning, we are keen to get as many in the freezer as we can.  They are good for the brain!

I am studying, of course.  “Thoughts on Seed and Birthing” is up to 61 pages and I still haven’t gotten to the big Abraham file and sorted out my notes for deeper study.  I love summer time for this.  I am in the process of making a Bible dictionary from the Bible definitions of its own terms.  This is great fun and I will probably begin with these lessons when Ladies Bible Study begins in August.  Want a sample?

Making your own personal Bible Dictionary:

Let’s consider how to use God’s Word as His Dictionary.  We will learn this by actually doing it.  I have made a “master list.”  These will not be in alphabetical order because we will begin with some rather simple ones to get some practice.  What it boils down to is disciplining ourselves to read in immediate context, first, and then the remote context, which will secure a proper understanding in the whole context.

Let’s begin with the whole context.  What is the Bible only about?

Now, let’s get to work on our dictionary.  This is fun.

Peace – Isaiah 26:3,  Mark 4:39; Luke 2:14; John 16:33; Romans 14:17;  Ephesians 2:14-17; Philippians 4:6-7; Colossians 3:15; 1 Thessalonians 5:23;  and the negative of “peace” is Revelation 6:4.  (Now, meditate upon these verses and write your summary Biblical definition.)

Grace – 2 Corinthians, chapter 8 and chapter 12:1-10

Joy – Hebrews 12:1-3; Psalm 30:5;

Deu_28:47  “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things;

Psa_16:11  Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fulness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.

Psa_33:1  Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright.

Rom_14:17  for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Rom_15:13  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Gal_5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Jud_1:24  Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy

I have not filled in the “meat” all the verses yet.  What you see above is a “brain storm.”
