The Necessity of Doctrine, part 3…

A humming bird checked me out through the big picture window in my study this morning.  He was all wet, but I didn’t have a towel small enough.  I love wrens.  One keeps coming to the other window to peer in at me.  They are not necessarily friendly birds, just curious.  I like that.  Here’s part three:

Our Lord taught the doctrine according to Godliness:

1 Timothy 6:3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

The Importance of Teaching in Acts:

Acts 4:2 being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Acts 4:18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Acts 5:21 And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning and taught. But the high priest and those with him came and called the council together, with all the elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

Acts 5:25 So one came and told them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”

Acts 5:28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine [teaching], and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”

Acts 13:12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Acts 15:35 Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Acts 18:11 And he [Paul] continued there [at Corinth] a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

Acts 20:20 And how I [Paul] kept back nothing that was profitable unto you [elders at Ephesus], but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

Acts 28:31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
