Take Strength from the Grace of God, part 5…

Paul has labored hard in his (the Lord’s calling and choosing) ministry – beaten, jailed, toiled, afflicted, persecuted, perplexed, delivered over to death. Timothy knew this and was by Paul’s side some of these times; and in verse 7, he writes to Timothy to “Consider what I say…” and goes on with, “for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.” Let me say, the Lord is the only One with the understanding that we need in all our difficulties. And, one thing we must understand is that faith is the commodity at stake in all our trials – not the outcome (in this age), but in the one to come! And therein lies the comfort and understanding from the Lord. However, therein lies our perplexity, also. We find it easy to focus on the outcome – will I be healed, will I be vindicated, will I find a job, will the rent get paid, etc. God’s focus is on His husbandry in us pertaining to the age to come. 2Cor 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory;

Light, momentary affliction = age-lasting weight of glory. Is it worth it? You had better believe it is! If you have been called unto His Kingdom and Glory, here is the story of your life: 1Pet 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you].

Verse 8, back in 2 Timothy 2, admonishes – commands – us to remember something: “Jesus Christ, risen from the dead…” Timothy already knew this very well and you know it, too. Perhaps, what we need to remember is that the resurrection is central, and NECESSARY, to the doctrine of the coming age. If Satan could just have kept the LORD dead, inside that cave until His body corrupted, there would be no heir to the throne! No Second Adam to claim the title deed to the earth. No justification for you and me. No High Priestly ministry. No continual, fresh blood for the remission of sins on the mercy seat. No hope in the age to come. No death to be abolished. No life in the age to come. No spirit of truth to teach us.

Satan could keep his present position except for the resurrection. When God restored the original heavens and earth, the first thing He did was create time – the evening and the morning were day one, and so on. Satan’s reign over the earth now had a time limit. This had to disrupt satan greatly. So, he focused on destroying God’s image in man, and destroying the seed of the woman (in Gen. 3:15), which would be destroying the Seed of Abraham and the Seed of David.

Now – remember that! Keep the above thoughts before your eyes of faith at all times.
