LBS Review, part 2…

LBS Review, Part 2,…

So, I reread the whole portion of Hebrews and told the girls that “therefore” appeared in Hebrews, alone, 57 times and asked what just knowing that fact tells us about the book. Good answers. I also told them that the word is Strong’s #1223 and is “dia,” meaning the channel of an act; through, any cause by means of which an action passes to its accomplishment. Knowing that fact gave us even better answers. The doctrines and principles in Hebrews will be “built” upon one another and we must pay attention through whom or what channel streams the previous concept for clearer understanding.

God” is first word in this book. Verse 2 tells us how and through whom we can “hear” God speak in these last days – His Son. “Gar” is first word in verse 2, and means, “assigning a reason.”

Those were just some of our observations for the opening to Hebrews. And, since, verse 1 of chapter 2, warns us that we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard – lest it slips past us or we drift away from it, we must review chapter 1 to ascertain if we have let anything slip by us.

Slip” or “drift away” is #3901, “pararrhueo.” To glide by, lest we be carried by, pass by is Thayer’s definition. He also adds, “lest the salvation which these things heard show us how to obtain, slip away from us!” That definition is huge. Salvation that is “obtained” is “heard” and can slip away from us. No wonder we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard!

We must be mindful and focused – so we went back over chapter one to see what slipped by us, unnoticed.

Last Tuesday’s notes of mine looked like this:

-tell about marking time

-tell about marking O. T. references

-tell about “companions”

Read Luke 20:33-44, “Sons of God = Sons of the Resurrection

-discuss “brought Thee to the birth” cp.5:5-14

See: Ps. 2, 2 Sam. 7:8-17; Acts 13:32-34; Romans 1:4;

Also, Mark 12:35-37; Mark 16:16

Cp. Also, Romans 8:29; Col. 1:18; Heb. 12:22-24; Rev. 1:5

Then – a closer look at 1:14

Handout papers on “inherit” and “promise”

Did we get to all of the above? (I’m giggling.) NOPE. But, you might can tell where we will be going. Love you all – muchly!  See ya’ tomorrow.
