…a Bible student's notes…

Preview of fall, 2011, Labies Bible study…

Read all of this –  “they” say ya’ll will only read about 500 words or less; so you prove “them” wrong>

We will get the Ladies Bible study going again on Tuesday, September 20th at 10:00 am., at the church. A preview seems to be a good idea for today’s post.

I have been interested in the way God begins His revelations to us in Genesis with the phrase, “after its kind.”

(Gen 1:21) And God created the great sea monsters, and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

(Gen 1:25) And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

(Gen 6:20) “Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind shall come to you to keep them alive.

(Gen 7:14) they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, all sorts of birds.

(Gen 1:11) Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them, on the earth”; and it was so.

(Gen 1:12) And the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.

(Gen 1:21) And God created the great sea monsters, and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

(Gen 1:24) Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind“; and it was so.

When God – Who created language and words, Who has refined His Word 7 times – says something over and over, He wants me to pay attention, because He is revealing something of Himself that I need to understand.

When He comes to His account of mankind, take a look: Gen 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Gen 1:27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

No other creation had an available “ready-made” image to be like. Only man was made in God’s image – male and female. They were meant to continue to bear fruit in God’s image. It was established from the very first that seed would have the image of the plant/animal/mankind that would bear fruit with the seed of the original plant/animal/mankind, and so forth – each, after its own kind. Like was to beget like. That’s easy to see.

My interest and study has led me on several intersecting avenues. I’ve pretty well decided to call the overall study, “Like Begets Like.” Topics that appeared in the side roads are:

  • How did sin alter the image of God?

  • How/Why did death enter and “break the cycle” of like begetting like?

  • Death – how does it compare to life – now and in the age to come?

  • What and how was there the necessity for the “Seed of the woman” ?

  • Which brings up the subject of seed, in general, for procreation.

  • Which brings up the subject of the laws of the harvest.

  • Understanding grafting.

  • We discover that one MUST be conceived from above – or “Born of God”

  • A name is given at birth.

  • Resurrection is a birth.

  • The Seed of David.

  • The Seed of Abraham.

  • The reason the Son of God appeared.

  • The Firstborn

  • The Adoption of sons

I am pretty sure there are more; and these are not necessarily in order of their appearance in the Bible or my study. I do so desire to put them in an order that accelerates our understanding and the title, “Like Begets Like” may be more meaningful to you. If we ever get to the final chapters of this study, it will make sense.
