Wisdom, contd…

According to Proverbs 2, you have to dig as if searching for hidden treasure. Besides, “Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7b) (By the way, the word “despise” means to “just take lightly!”)

God speaks His Wisdom among those who are mature (1Cor. 2:6a) – a “wisdom not of this age – but God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory.” (1Cor. 2:6b-7)

In this passage, verses 9-16 of 1Corinthians 2, Paul is telling us – among a lot of other things – where wisdom is known and how.  He didn’t reveal it to our eyes, ears, or heart (v.9) –an indirect way – “But to us God revealed it through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.” (v.10) – but directly to our spirit –  “…that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6b

Wisdom can come to you indirectly through your soul – that’s the wisdom of the world and of humans that Paul speaks of – or it can come directly to your spirit.  You must be adept at discerning which is at work, for the human, worldly, wisdom of this age can appear deceivingly wise!  (Wisdom of this age is usually conceived in the mind by deducing or reasoning.)

It is our spirit that is “born from above” (Jn. 3:6).  Our soul has a salvation ready to be revealed at a later time (1Peter 1:9) The “born from above” spirit desires to rule the soul, teaching and leading the soul into all truth.  But the initial truth you must know is that your spirit and soul are divisible.

The premise upon which to study the Word of God:

  • God says what He means and means what He says – and says more than He says, using types, parables, figures of speech, history, and such like.
  • ALL that God has to say is in the Bible.  It is complete.  There will be no further revelations, visions, and dreams.
  • To know Christ you must know the Word.  He is the Word – made flesh.
  • There are no contradictions in the Scriptures.  Contradictions are misinterpretations!
