…a Bible student's notes…

Been thinkin’ about how rare WISDOM is!  It is rarer than any jewel.  It is even ignored and ridiculed, much less sought after.  Was reading the other day in 1Kings about Solomon asking the Lord for wisdom and the response he got from the Lord.  Do you live by wisdom?  Do you know what it is and long for it, ask for it, look for it?  Would you recognize it if you did find it?  Would you sell all to have it?  What do you think is wisdom’s reward?  Does it even interest you?  What if we had based our daily living on wisdom ALL our lives, would we be where and what we are today?  (Hardly– hindsight is clearer vision than foresight.)

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.  He stores up sound wisdom for the upright….” (Prov. 2:6, 7a)  Read the 2nd chapter in Proverbs, especially verses 1 – 11  Gaining wisdom is hard work and means being “righteous” to begin with! (“Righteous” means being right with the Lord!  Actually, you can break the word down for its meaning to:  “right wiseness.”) We will never gain wisdom living our own way – only the Lord’s way, according to His Word.

Wisdom is revealed to our spirit, taught by the Holy Spirit in our spirits.  Now, most of you know that you have a spirit, just don’t equate it to your soul. You can have lots of soulical wisdom, and frankly, live rather well – in this age; but in the age to come, only spiritual wisdom will be of value.  It behooves us to discern between spirit wisdom and soulish wisdom!  You must know the doctrine of the separation of your soul and spirit in order to understand God’s wisdom.

I’m sounding dogmatic, aren’t I?  Well, no more dogmatic than God is in Hebrews 4:12“For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge (discern = tracing out & passing judgments on the mind) the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
