The Destroyer of the Firstborn, part 8

                    The Angels of Evil

A mighty angel of evil was let loose on every house in Egypt to kill the firstborn – “for there was not a house where there was not one dead” – Ex. 12:30.

All the preceding plagues had been inflicted by angels of evil:

Ps 78:49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels (lit: “angels of evil”) among them.

Let me put some meanings into this verse:

He cast (“to throw, fling”) upon them the fierceness (“a burning of anger”) of his anger (“Nostril, nose – rapid breathing of passion”), wrath (“ overflowing outburst”), and indignation (“to froth at the mouth”), and trouble (“tightness” -this word is feminine), by sending (“letting loose”) evil (“wicked, injurious”) angels (“to dispatch a messenger”) among them.

I am going to risk boring you with a couple of other translations of this verse. I want us to understand just how angry God was/is with idol worship, disobedience, immorality, and such like:

Psa 78:49 He sent upon them the heat of His anger, Rage and menace and distress, A mission of the messengers of perils, (Concordant Literal Version)

Psa 78:49 He let loose upon them the fierceness of His anger, His wrath and indignation and distress, by sending [a mission of] angels of calamity and woe among them. Psa 78:50 He leveled and made a straight path for His anger [to give it free course]; He did not spare [the Egyptian families] from death but gave their beasts over to the pestilence and the life [of their eldest] over to the plague. Psa 78:51 He smote all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents [of the land of the sons] of Ham. Psa 78:52 But [God] led His own people forth like sheep and guided them [with a shepherd’s care] like a flock in the wilderness. (Amplified)

Angels of evil” are angels, because of their nature, would eagerly inflict evil. -Lang

At this point, if I told you to go read 1Kings, chapter 22, would you? It’s too long to print here for you. http://biblebrowser.com/1_kings/22-1.htm http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20kings%2022&version=NIV

http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=1+Kings+22

So here are three different versions. The ESV will have audio, which is an easy way for me to read along. And, here’s the best one http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=1Ki&c=22&v=1&t=KJV#top – the Blue Letter Bible, King James Version, and you can listen and read along. But, here are the verses I wanted to have you note:

1Ki 22:19-23 And Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the LORD. I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. “And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said this while another said that. “Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “And the LORD said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and also prevail. Go and do so.’ “Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has proclaimed disaster against you.”
