…a Bible student's notes…

Nabal and Abigail, “according to your faith….”

 Many battles are fought in the “hidden” places before the Lord with nary a sword being drawn. Many battles are thwarted in the “hidden” places before the Lord through an intercessor wielding the “sword of the spirit,” The Word of God.

I know a woman who did not fear a harsh and evil husband – nor – did she fear a revenge-seeking lord. Abigail’s behaviors were not motivated by fear. They were motivated by faith. She knew the “things to come” and acted accordingly to please her lord.

Let me just look up for you a few verses concerning “things to come,”

1Co 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

Col 2:17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

1Ti 4:8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Heb 9:11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation;

Heb 11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come.

Rev 22:20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Also, I keep being reminded of 1 Peter 3. Here are instructions to wives who desire to be heirs of the grace of age-lasting life by being submissive to their husbands in the same way that Christ was submissive to His Father. This wife is instructed so as to be a child of Sarah, Abraham’s wife, if she calls her husband “lord” as Sarah did without being frightened by any fear!

This is a Jamieson, Fausett, Brown quote: 1Pe 3:6 Sara — an example of faith. calling him lord — (Gen_18:12). ye are — Greek, “ye have become”: “children” of Abraham and Sara by faith, whereas ye were Gentile aliens from the covenant. afraid with any amazement — Greek, “fluttering alarm,” “consternation.” Act well, and be not thrown into sudden panic, as weak females are apt to be, by any opposition from without. Bengel translates, “Not afraid OF any fluttering terror coming from without” (1Pe_3:13-16).

So here is 1 Peter 3:1-6 for your consideration and meditation:  1Pe 3:1 ¶ In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 1Pe 3:2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. 1Pe 3:3 And let not your adornment be merely external–braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 1Pe 3:4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 1Pe 3:5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands. 1Pe 3:6 Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.

  1. The best yet. I had never realized that the word “Lord/lord” appearded within this passage. And with such passion. The parable could have had meaning for Cornerstone. They could have let the angel do the gathering.

    Praise the Lord fr your understading for the Word of the Kingdom. I am most blessed to be your husband. Bobber
