Nabal and Abigail, faith as the foundation of virtue…

Let’s take a look at the faith of Abigail.

FAITH is a noun – a possession – ya’ got it, or ya’ don’t. FAITH comes out of hearing, and the act of hearing involves the Word of the Christ (our Lord’s title, not His name) – The Anointed One. In July, 2009, I put it like this:

Romans 10:17“Faith (has definite article before it and is a noun – a possession, not a verb – actually, there are no verbs in this verse) comes from (“ek” – out of)   hearing (noun – not a verb – meaning the thing heard) and (“moreover,” “yet”) the (definite article, meaning a particular  thing heard) hearing (noun) by (“dia” – through) the ( definite article not in original, we could insert “a”) word (“rhema” – as opposed to “logos”) of (concerning) Christ (from the most reliable sources).”

Abigail possessed faith. I know this by what she said:

1Sa 25:23 When Abigail saw David, she hurried and dismounted from her donkey, and fell on her face before David, and bowed herself to the ground.

1Sa 25:28 “Please forgive the transgression of your maidservant; for the LORD will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the LORD, and evil shall not be found in you all your days.

1Sa 25:29 “And should anyone rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, then the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the LORD your God; but the lives of your enemies He will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.

1Sa 25:30 “And it shall come about when the LORD shall do for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and shall appoint you ruler over Israel,

1Sa 25:31 that this will not cause grief or a troubled heart to my lord, both by having shed blood without cause and by my lord having avenged himself. When the LORD shall deal well with my lord, then remember your maidservant.”

Abigail’s faith: She knew the LORD would make an “enduring house” for David – all the way to the coming King in His Glory! She knew the LORD would keep His Word to David. And she knew that when David was crowned king, that kings needed a helpmeet by their side and cabinet members in their court.

So – do you possess faith? You must know what God has said concerning the coming Kingdom of our LORD and Savior, Jesus, the Christ. The next kingdom for Abigail was going to be David’s. She knew it. She desired and asked for a place for herself in it.  The next kingdom for us will be the Kingdom of God, also named the Kingdom of the heavens.

But, we are privy to Abigail’s virtuous behaviors that she added to her faith.

She humbled herself.

She takes responsibility for herself.

She prepared herself.

She intercedes for her husband.

She intercedes for herself.

She intercedes for David concerning God’s purpose for him; thus thwarting David from acting against the will of God.

This last thing I want to say for today stirs the deepest of my emotions and desires. Oh, that it could be said of us dear readers:

1Sa 25:32 ¶ Then David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me,

1Sa 25:33 and blessed be your discernment, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodshed, and from avenging myself by my own hand.
