Simplicity….

I put “Simplicity Books” into Google and got over 6 million hits.  Now, that ain’t simple!  But, there is One Book that lends itself to the “simplicity toward Christ” as its theme.  The enemy of simplicity is, of course, satan’s craft of deceit and he is winning – BIG TIME!  However, there are a few sheep that hear the Shepherd’s voice and follow Him.  They are the ones living simply.  There is only one Master, one Lord, one way, one goal – Simple.

Let’s take a look at that phrase in verse 3 of 2 Cor. 11:  “the simplicity that is in Christ.” (KJV)

In the concordant literal version, “simplicity” is “uncompound.”  As a dental assistant, I would take a little bullet-looking capsule of several ingredients (mercury being one of them) and put it into a machine to mix at just the right speed and right length of time to produce the silver filling at just the right moment when the dentist was finished with his prep of the tooth.  Would have been simpler to hand him one ingredient and be done with it.

This word is found 8 times in the New Testament.  Notice how it is translated – #572:

(Romans 12:8)  OrG1535 he that exhortethG3870 [G5723], onG1722 exhortationG3874: he that givethG3330 [G5723], let him do it withG1722 simplicityG572; he that rulethG4291 [G5734], withG1722 diligenceG4710; he that sheweth mercyG1653 [G5723], withG1722 cheerfulnessG2432.

(2 Corinthians 1:12)  ForG1063 ourG2257 rejoicingG2746 isG2076 [G5748] thisG3778, the testimonyG3142 of ourG2257 conscienceG4893, thatG3754 inG1722 simplicityG572 andG2532 godlyG2316 sincerityG1505, notG3756 withG1722 fleshlyG4559 wisdomG4678, butG235 byG1722 the graceG5485 of GodG2316, we have had our conversationG390 [G5648] inG1722 the worldG2889, andG1161 more abundantlyG4056 toG4314 you-wardG5209.

(2 Corinthians 8:2)  How thatG3754 inG1722 a greatG4183 trialG1382 of afflictionG2347 the abundanceG4050 of theirG846 joyG5479 andG2532 theirG846 deepG899 povertyG2596 G4432 aboundedG4052 [G5656] untoG1519 the richesG4149 of theirG846 liberalityG572.

(2 Corinthians 9:11)  Being enrichedG4148 [G5746] inG1722 every thingG3956 toG1519 allG3956 bountifulnessG572, whichG3748 causethG2716 [G5736] throughG1223 usG2257 thanksgivingG2169 to GodG2316.

(2 Corinthians 9:13)  Whiles byG1223 the experimentG1382 of thisG5026 ministrationG1248 they glorifyG1392 [G5723] GodG2316 forG1909 yourG5216 professedG3671 subjectionG5292 untoG1519 the gospelG2098 of ChristG5547, andG2532 for your liberalG572 distributionG2842 untoG1519 themG846, andG2532 untoG1519 allG3956 men ;

(2 Corinthians 11:3)  ButG1161 I fearG5399 [G5736], lestG3381 by any meansG4458, asG5613 the serpentG3789 beguiledG1818 [G5656] EveG2096 throughG1722 hisG846 subtiltyG3834, soG3779 yourG5216 mindsG3540 should be corruptedG5351 [G5652] fromG575 the simplicityG572 that is inG1519 ChristG5547.

(Ephesians 6:5)  ServantsG1401, be obedientG5219 [G5720] to them that are your mastersG2962 according toG2596 the fleshG4561, withG3326 fearG5401 andG2532 tremblingG5156, inG1722 singlenessG572 of yourG5216 heartG2588, asG5613 unto ChristG5547;

(Colossians 3:22)  ServantsG1401, obeyG5219 [G5720] inG2596 all thingsG3956 your mastersG2962 accordingG2596 to the fleshG4561; notG3361 withG1722 eyeserviceG3787, asG5613 menpleasersG441; butG235 inG1722 singlenessG572 of heartG2588, fearingG5399 [G5740] GodG2316:

Let’s put all the translations into our verse 3: (2Cor 11:3) “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty (craftiness), so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity, liberality, bountifulness, singleness, that is in Christ.”  (KJV)

There are an additional two places where it is translated “single,” and these will clarify its use even more:

(Matt 6:22) The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

(Matt 6:23) But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

(Matt 6:24) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

(Matt 6:25) Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

(Matt 6:26) Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

(Matt 6:27)  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

(Matt 6:28) And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

(Matt 6:29) And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

(Matt 6:30) Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

(Matt 6:31) Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(Matt 6:32) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

(Matt 6:33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

(Matt 6:34) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

And the one in Luke:

 (Luke 11:34) The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

(Luke 11:35) Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

(Luke 11:36) If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

The one single thing that will guard us against satan’s craftiness?  Believing the “light of the gospel of the glory of Christ – and ALL that means –with no mixture of false doctrine.  Believing not is from satan! (2Cor 4:4)” In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”  (2Cor 4:6) “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

There is only one main theme in the Bible and it concerns The Seventh Day when the Second Adam (Christ) will rule with a rod of iron and the earth will be filled with His Glory.

(Rev 18:1) And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

(Rev 19:1) And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
