This and That, the Other……and John 8…

It is Sunday evening.  I got in a little nap after a hospital visit we made after church.  Bob went out and brought back Mexican for our 3:00 o’clock lunch.  I just had some chocolate-covered pecans for supper.  Is this the life, or what!!  Bob’s best friend – from high school and college – called from Mississippi to check on me.  The Lord is good.

Last week, we had trouble remembering what day of the week we had for that day.  Everyone on our dead-end street has had no water for 10 days, except us.  Our line comes from above our house and not from our street.  The water company worked until midnight every night.  I could hear the beep, beeps of the trucks backing up.  Now they have lines running to everyone’s house across the road for the weekend.  They will have to dig up the whole street and put in new lines because they cannot find where it froze.  It’s a narrow road and we are the last house and just getting out to the main road has been a chore waiting for them to move equipment and such out of our way.

We have birthdays coming up for our daughter’s husband on the 23rd and Bob’s is the 25th.  Next Sunday is conveniently in between, so it’s restaurant time.  Ichaban has been the birthday favorite for years now; but we may try a Japanese place that opened in Ft. Oglethorpe.

ain’t this interesting?!

Say, did you see that comment on the Titus blog about sound doctrine?  It was made by my husband and it is very good.  Here it is:  It is interesting to relate “truth” to “sound doctrine” as it appears in John. They that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. No truth (sound doctrine) no worship. No sound doctrine no profit. No sound doctrine no being “set free.” (John 8:32}  He had been in John 8 that morning and I thought it fit so well.  Our computers are in opposite ends of the house from each other so sometimes we just communicate by email.  When we finish our morning studies, we meet in the den for prayer time.  We have agreed that we will attempt to get doctor appointments right after lunch, giving us time to establish this habit.  I want to paste some of those verses from John 8 for you.

¶ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 ¶ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 ¶ Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Ya’ know – I wish I could convince you to read the above without the influence of anything – yes, anything – you have even heard or read about this passage!  Verses 32 and 36 equate the SON with TRUTH – truth makes you free, Son makes you free.  In verse 37, our Lords knows He is speaking to Abraham’s seed, but His word has no “place” (has not been received) in them.  And, that is the issue with their being “of their father, the devil.”  They have satan’s traits – lust, murder, not abiding in truth because no truth in them, they speak of their own things, they are liars.  And then there is verse 51.  How in the world is this a true verse!  Jesus said that if a person keeps His saying, they shall never see death.  Well, that should make you stop and think, and study!  I have seen a lot of folks die, including my parents who really tried to “keep His Word.”  I’ve got to tell you that all the verse is not there, but the message is in the context.  Verse 56 says that their father, Abraham, “rejoiced to see my day – saw it, and was glad.”  The context is about the 7th day!  The Day of the Lord’s rule for 1,000 years.  Abraham “saw” it by faith.  Read Hebrews 11.  The literal translation of verse 51 is:  (LITV)  Truly, truly, I say to you, If anyone keeps My Word, he will not behold death to the age, never! This one – keeping His word, and all that means – will partake with the Lord in His coming “ion” – age!  “Death” is not partaking with Him in His coming Day – age.

Who are those that are “of God?”   Joh 17:24 ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.  God, the Father, has given His Son those that will partake with Him in His kingdom and glory!
